Service provider

BT has announced that its research and technology division, BTexact Technologies, will market and provide its services to organisations outside of the BT Group for the first time. BTexact Technologies is derived from the company's BT Laboratories near Ipswich and is responsible for some far-reaching telecoms technology advances. For example, development of single-mode optical fibre enabling more efficient use of optical fibre, now used worldwide; and the development of the technology and worldwide standards behind passenger phones on aircraft, submarine optical fibre cables and videoconferencing, amongst others.
"With our new remit to serve external organisations we can develop further revenues whilst working with BT's businesses," says Stewart Davies, CEO, BTexact Technologies. "We are commercialising BT's technological capabilities by establishing an external customer base and developing partnerships that will help us tap into new markets where our work is as applicable as it has been in our traditional areas of operation."
BTexact technologies will offer consultancy, design and development across a range of technologies. Initially this will include operational support systems, multimedia applications, network security, telecoms networks, mobile and 3G mobile, voice, process modelling and development, customer relationship management, testing, simulation, performance monitoring and inter-working.
