The National Engineering Recruitment Exhibition (NER), taking place in Hall 3 at Wembley, London, on 10 and 11 May 2002, will profile engineering in all its disciplines including civil electrical, electronic, manufacturing and systems engineering. Hailed as the most cost-effective forum for recruiting engineers across the UK, the exhibition targets experienced and graduate engineers. Thousands of positions are available at the event, which will provide a forum for both exhibitors and visitors to meet and discuss opportunities.

Venture Marketing Group has teamed up with INPUT, an education/industry link project based at The Oxford Trust, to run two interactive competitions each day, namely: the Wind Powered Vehicle Challenge and the Emergency Medical Supplies Challenge.

After receiving a briefing on the principles of the Wind Powered Vehicle Challenge, teams of up to four contestants will demonstrate their engineering expertise by constructing a vehicle from a kit of structural and mechanical components, capable of travelling directly into the flow of air in a wind tunnel. The challenge will run on both days and contestants will have one hour to complete their vehicles.

The Emergency Medical Supplies Challenge will be open to teams of two people, who will need to demonstrate their expertise in efficient packaging of fragile materials by designing a structure that will prevent a fresh egg from breaking after being thrown over a two metre high wall onto a concrete floor. Teams will be given one A4 sheet of paper, a length of adhesive tape, scissors and an egg, and will have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.

John Allen, director of INPUT comments, "We are delighted to be working with Venture Marketing Group, to help demonstrate and promote engineering in a way that is fun and accessible to all. We recognise that encouraging potential engineers is the only way to ensure that the industry will prosper in the future. With this in mind, we hope that we shall be able to encourage visitors at NER to participate in the interactive challenges and benefit from the exhibition, which is the premier of the engineering industry in the UK."

Other features at NER include a CV Clinic and a Careers Presentation Theatre. Among the key exhibitors are BAE Systems, One 2 One, Alstom Transport Service Ltd, BOC Edwards, Carillion Rail, Flight Re-Fueling, National Air Traffic Services, Parsons Brinckerhoff, The Technology Partnership, TRW Aeronautical System and Vodaphone UK.
