In response to the Government's Climate Change Levy, environmental solutions provider, Middlesex-based LAL, has signed an agreement with Honeywell to distribute its Micro Turbine Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology.
The Levy, which came in to effect last April, is expected to raise around £1 billion for government in the first year. This new tax on the non-domestic use of fossil fuels and electricity that may increase bills for businesses by as much as 10 to 15 per cent, is in responce to the Kyoto agreement that commits the UK to reduce emissions of greenhoue gases by 12.5 per cent by 2010.
The new Honeywell Parallon 75 technology provides an economic solution for the simultaneous generation of power and heat or cooling in a single process. In addition, the micro turbine produces greenhouse emissions that are 75 per cent less than conventional gas turbine or diesel engine CHP systems. A single moving part and a system that runs on air bearings makes the systems very efficient, being able to operate at 80 per cent efficiency when generating electricity.
